Kasey Weaver Sets Nittany 40 Fast Time; But Mother Nature Claims Victory
Mill Hall; PA – As with most speedways in Central PA; April’s weather has not been kind to weekly racing action with Mother Nature claiming 3 of 4 scheduled events at the 1/3-mile clay oval. On the first Friday in May; the Clinton County Speedway was anxious to host its annual Nittany 40 for the RaceSaver Sprint Cars; presented by River Valley Builders. With the sun shining, the highly anticipated event had twenty-eight Sprint Cars on hand. In addition to the Sprint Cars; the Pro Stocks; 270 Micro Sprints and Four Cylinders were ready for competition. With qualifications complete and the features lineups set; the first feature of the night with the 270 Micro Sprints was ready to push off; as Mother Nature halted the action and the skies poured down with rain.
Earlier in the evening, Kasey Weaver of Evertt; PA had the best lap in Sprint Car time-trails - setting a fast lap with a time of 12.623 seconds. Three qualifying events were required for the Sprint Cars. Jared Zionkowski of Wyalusing held off Jeffrery Weaver of Lock Haven and Ken Duke Jr. of Selinsgrove in heat race number one. Kasey Weaver showed he had a fast race car by claiming heat race number two over Bradeen Varner of Mifflintown and Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek. In the third qualifier, John Braim of Turbotville was the winner over Jacob Gomola of Guys Mills and Josh Beamer of Picture Rocks. The B-main event was won by Kolby Weaver of Everett.
In the Micro Sprint qualifiers; Cory Stabley of Blanchard held off Lock Haven’s Jeffrey Weaver to win heat one. Selinsgrove’s Tyler Clowes took the checkered flag over Alex Lukacs of Strasburg.
Marc Bitler of Williamsport set a new 5-lap track record in the Pro Stock heat race. Bitler crossed the line in front of Larry Knight of Williamsport and Tommy Dawson of Hobie. Heat race number two was won by AJ Hoffman of Richfield over Lock Haven’s Denny Fourney and Selinsgrove’s Cory Long.
The Clinton County Speedway will be back in action this Friday night; May 9thh featuring the Limited Late Models; Pro Stocks; 270 Micro Sprints and 4-Cylinders. The 270 Micro Sprints will have double features on Friday night. Gates open at 5PM; Hot laps are at 7PM and Racing Begins at 7:30.
