Rain Forces Clinton County Officials to Cancel – Big Events on Tap Including 410 Sprints

Mill Hall, PA – Clinton County Speedway officials had to cancel the Friday, July 16th racing event as a storm came across the fairgrounds soaking the speedway surface.   Rain check will be honored for the next three races.  The speedway will be closed on Friday, July 23rd for a “racers summer vacation.”  During this time, crews will continue to make improvements to the speedway including the installation of new fencing.

The next event schedule will be on July 30th with a five division show featuring the Laurel Highlands RaceSaver Sprint cars, the Pro Stocks, the 270 Micro Sprints, the 600 Micro Sprints, and the Four Cylinders.  The Four-Cylinders will also run the remainder of an event that was curfewed out a few weeks ago with 2 laps complete.  In addition, there will be a pre-race concert featuring the popular duo of Mike + Cass.

The Speedway is also preparing for major events in the month of August.  The annual Clinton County Fair will feature 2 race events.  On Wednesday, August 4th the 270 and 600 Micro Sprints will compete in $500 to win events.  In addition, the Pro Stock and Four Cylinders will be in action.  On Friday

August 6th Century 21 and Real Estate agent Bob Boob will present a kids night featuring a $500 cash and candy scramble for kids 12 and under.  Racing will be the Limited Late Models, Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints, 600 Micro Sprints and the 4 Cylinders.

The Laurel Highlands RaceSaver Sprint cars will be back for racing on Friday, August 13th with the Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints, 600 Micro Sprints, and Four Cylinders.  This is the first race of a two race weekend.

On Saturday, August 14th the 410 Sprint cars will make their first appearance in over a decade.  NAPA Auto Parts and Toner Auto Parts will present the $4,000 to win – $400 to start event.  Several drivers from Central and Western Pennsylvania as well as New York have expressed an interest in this special event that will also include the Pro Stocks and Four Cylinders.  “This is the first time that the 410 Sprint Cars have been at Clinton County for more than 10 years,” says Race Promoter Jason McCahan. “The fans are excited for this show, and we hope to make it an annual event.”  Clinton County has held some big races for the 410s since it opened in 1989, including some events sanctioned by the All Stars, but this is the first time a race of this caliber has been held under the lights.

Jim Yoder Takes Checkered Flag at Clinton County Speedway

Mill Hall, PA – Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove claimed his second victory of the season, bringing his career total to 44 wins at the 3/8 mile oval.  “We just really enjoy racing here,” said Yoder in victory lane.  Other winners of the night included Brandon Moser of Millerstown in the Pro Stocks, Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek in the 270 Micro Sprints, Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven in the 600 Micro Sprints, and 4-Cylinder Feature winners included Keith Haagen of Bellefonte, Chloe Smith of Montgomery, and John Bower of Mill Hall.

Len Stroud of Avis and Nick Loffredo of Jersey Shore led the field of Limited Late Models to the green flag, as the field came up to full speed, something mechanical broke on Loffredo’s car to bring out the caution.   The complete restart, put Jim Yoder alongside Stroud.  Yoder raced to the outside of Stroud to lead the opening lap.  Jim’s nephew, multi-time feature winner – Andrew Yoder was running in the runner up position but took his car to the pit area on lap number four.   Mike Smith, who started fifth, tried to chase down Jim Yoder, while Len Stroud Denny Fourney and Tim Luben battled for position.   A late race caution for a stopped car on lap number 17, allowed Smith one more opportunity to pass Yoder.  Yoder held off the challenge to claim the win over Smith, Fourney, Stroud and Luben.  Sixth place was Andrew Yoder followed by Kaiden Bard, Jeremy Oh and Loffredo.  Heats were won by Andrew and Jim Yoder.

Corey Stable and Doug Reinard started on the front row of the 15-lap 270 Micro Sprint feature.  Stabley jumped into the early lead for the first two laps, before sixth place starter Wyatt Rotz made a pass to take over the top position by the completion of lap number three.   Two of the speedway’s top micro sprint competitors, Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek and Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven chased Rotz and were in contention to take the top position.  On lap number eight, Bittner made the pass to take the lead and Weaver followed Bittner, shuffling Rotz back to third.   Two laps later, Rotz’s car slowed and brought out the caution flag.   With five laps to go, Bittner led Weaver, Denny Rinehimer, Stabley and Reinard.   Bittner executed a flawless start and cruised to the win over Weaver, Rinehimer, Stabley and Reinard.  Sixth through tenth were Braden Kuhn, Nick Whitesel, Skeetz Hockenbrock, Tom Quiggle and Troy Whitesel.  Heat races were won by Stabley, Weaver and Rotz.

Pole sitter Dexter Strawser led the first lap of the 600 Micro Sprint feature event over Sierra Hauck, Dustin Roberts, Timmy Bittner, and Cody Hauck.  Strawser began to distance himself from the field, as Sierra Hauck and Timmy Bittner battled for the runner up position.  Bittner took over second place by lap number 5 and set his sights on reeling in Strawser who had a sizable lead.  Meanwhile, Jeffrey Weaver moved into the top five.   As the race continued caution free, Bittner was gaining on Strawser with the completion of every lap.  On lap number eleven, Bittner caught Strawser and on the next circuit, made the pass for the lead.  Bittner appeared to be on his way to another sweep of the micro sprint feature events.  As he was encountering lapped traffic on lap number 13, Bittner spun and brought out the caution.   Weaver took over the top spot with Strawser, Cody Hauck, Dustin Robert, and Sierra Hauck restarting in the top five.  Weaver held off Strawser for the win over Roberts, Sierra Hauck, and Cody Hauck.  Sixth through tenth were Ethan Spotts, Timmy Bittner, Jeff Gyuina, Michell Holden, and Dan Tripoli.        Heat races were won by Cody Hauck and Strawser.

Robert Tressler of Lock Haven started on the outside of the front row and took the lead from pole sitter Chris Orwig Sr in the Pro Stock main event.   Last week’s feature winner, AY Schilling and current point leader Brandon Moser battle for the runner up position.  By lap number three, the top three cars were in a contested battle.  On lap number four, Moser passed Tressler for the lead, while Cory Long and Noah Jensen made it a five car battle for the win.   The caution waved on lap number nine, when Cory Long’s car stopped to bring out the caution.   Moser held off Tressler on the restart to earn his sixth victory of the year.   Tressler finished second, while Schilling and Jensen battled for third and fourth.   Orwig finished fifth.   Sixth through tenth were Rich Fye, Rooster Peters, Corey Long, Todd Geyer and Tim Shirk.  Heat race winners were Schilling and Tressler.

Dylan Craft led the opening laps of the first Four-Cylinder main event.   Current point leader and sixth place start, Blake Snyder followed on Crafts rear bumper in a race that went non-stop.  Snyder made the pass for the lead by the completion of lap number seven.   Fourth place starter John Bower took the runner up position from Craft on lap number nine as the field began to encounter lapped traffic.   Snyder appeared to be on his way to the win, as the top three cars entered turns three and four.  As the checkered flag was waving, Snyder hesitated with a lapped car, and Bower powered by to take the win.   Snyder settled for second followed by Jimmy Moyer, Craft and Scott Englert.  Sixth through tenth were Chloe Smith, Maddox Smith, Emily Brouse, Coty Maines, and Dakota Hamilton.

Chloe Smith started on the pole and led the field to the green flag for the second four-cylinder feature event.   Dylan Craft quickly moved into second with Shawn Stahl running in third.   Ninth place starter, Keith Haagen moved into the top five by lap number four.   On lap number eight, Haagen took over second place.  With two laps remaining, Haagen took the lead with Jimmy Moyer in hot pursuit.   Haagen and Moyer raced to the line with Craft, Bower and Englert in the top five.  Sixth through tenth were Maddox Smith, Chole Smith, Joshua Thompson, Tim Muthler, and Emily Brouse.   Heat races were won by Englert, Haagen, and Stahl.

Chloe Smith won the 4 Cylinder Jr. Race.

The Clinton County Speedway returns this Friday with a five division program.  The RaceSaver Sprint cars will compete in a $500 to win Summer Championship presented by Brigandi, Gleghorn & Haffley, an independent insurance agency presenting ERIE Insurance.  Additionally, there will be the Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints, 600 Micro Sprints, and the Four Cylinder with double features.  Gates will open at 5PM, Hot-laps are at 7PM and Racing begins at 7:30PM.  For more speedway information, visit the website at www.clintoncountyspeedway.com or on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Bard and Duke Share Sprint Car Spotlight at Clinton County Speedway

Mill Hall – The Clinton County Speedway kicked off the Fourth of July weekend with a Sprint Car double header.  Garrett Bard of Wells Tannery and Ken Duke Jr of Selinsgrove each claimed a victory over a stellar field of RaceSaver sprint cars.  AY Schilling of Linden won the Pro Stock feature while Timmy Bittner of Beech Creek scored a pair of victories, claiming the 270 and 600 Micro Sprint feature events.

The first sprint car feature had Garrett Bard and Josh Beamer on the front row of the 25 lap main event.   Bard jumped to the early lead with Beamer, Dale Schweikart, John Walp and Dustin Prettyleaf in pursuit.   With a full field of racecars, Bard and company quickly caught the back of the pack by the fourth circuit and began working their way through lapped traffic.   On lap number six, Beamer was closing in on Bard and while trying to keep pace with Bard through lapped traffic, he attempted to put a slide job on a lapped car, but the two cars tangled causing Andrew Boyer’s car to flip in turn number two.   Beamer suffered a flat tire and had to go to the pits.

Bard, Walp, Schweikart, Prettyleaf and Jared Zionkowski were the top five, as the green flag waved for the restart.   Again, Bard was strong on the restart and quickly caught the rear of the field by the completion of lap number ten.  Zionkowski, who started twelfth, was the driver on the move and utilized the top side of the speedway to maneuver through the lapped traffic.  A late race caution occurred on lap number 17, when Jeffrey Weaver spun in turn number four.   Bard was flawless on this restart and was able to hold off the challenges of Walp for the win.   Zionkowski finished third, Schweikart was fourth and Ryan Lynn completed the top five.  Sixth through tenth were Dustin Prettyleaf, Devin Brenam, Andrew Jacobus, Scott Lutz, and Ken Duke.

In the second RaceSaver Sprint Car event, Scott Lutz started on the pole position and led the field to the green flag.   Second place starter Ken Duke and fourth place starter Jared Zionkowski chased Lutz during the opening laps.  Duke pressured Lutz for several laps, as the duo ran wheel to wheel for the top position.   Duke finally executed the pass for the lead by the completion of lap number eight.   Eighth place starter, Robbie Bartchy worked his way into the top five and was quickly advancing towards the front.   The event ran non-stop till the first caution occurred on lap number 21, when Dominic Meliar and Josh Beamer spun.  On the restart, several cars tangled to bring out the event’s second caution flag.  Duke brought the field back to speed as Lutz and Bartchy battled for the runner up position.  When the checkered flag waved, Duke claimed his seventh career victory as the speedway over Bartchy took second away from Lutz, followed by Zionkowski and Walp.  Sixth through tenth were Dale Schweikart, Mike Alleman, Derek Hauck, Ryan Lynn, and Tylor Cochran.  Four heat races and a B-main were needed for the field of 33 Sprints.  Heats were won by Bartchy, Alleman, Duke and Zionkowski.  Mike Melair won the B-Main.

Lady driver Sierra Hauck led the opening laps of the 600 Micro Sprint feature event.  Fourth place starter Timmy Bittner quickly took over the second spot.  On lap number three, the red flag came out when Kyle Knopp rolled his sprint car.   Hauck led the field of gentlemen for two more circuits, until Timmy Bittner took the top position.  Cody Hauck followed Bittner and shuffled Sierra Hauck back to third.   The remainder of the event went caution free, with Bittner holding off the husband-wife duo of Cody and Sierra Hauck, Dexter Strawser and Jeffrey Weaver.  Sixth through tenth were Jeff Gyuina, Travis Kelser, Mitchell Holden, James Layton and Knopp.  Heats were won by Weaver and Cody Hauck.

Cory Stabley and Mitchell Holden led the field of 270 Micro Sprints to the green flag.  Stabley led the first three laps.  Following a lap three caution, seventh place starter Timmy Bittner made a pass on the restart to take the top position.  Jeffrey Weaver who started tenth followed Bittner to take the runner up position.  At the halfway mark of the event, Bittner led Weaver, Stabley, Skeetz Hockenbrock and Bobby Sanso.   A lap twelve caution slowed the field, but Bittner was too strong for Weaver on the restart and claimed the win to sweep, both micro sprint victories on the evening.   “This is the second time, we have been able to win both features in one night,” said an excited Bittner in victory lane.  Weaver finished second, followed by Hockenbrock.  Shaun Musser made a late race charge to finish fourth with Sanso completing the top five.   Sixth through tenth were Zachery Glass, Corey Stabley, Logan Hammaker, Matthew Dixon, and Mac Wert.  Heat races were won by Hockenbrock, Bittner and Glass.

In Pro Stock competition, AY Schilling and Robert Tressler started on the front row.   Tressler took command of the field to lead the opening laps of the event.   Third place starter Noah Jensen edged out Schilling at the start-finish line for the runner up position, as the two racers battled for the runner up position.   Schilling finally took over the position on lap number five.   A caution on lap number seven, bunched the field on Tressler’s rear bumper.   Schilling used the restart to his advantage and made a pass for the lead as the cars raced down the back stretch.   Schilling maintained a slim lead, as three cars were battling for second.  Corey Long, who started fifth, joined Tressler and Jensen for a contested battle for second place. On lap number thirteen, Long took over second.  On the final lap, Schilling held off long, while Tressler rallied for third over a heated battle with Jensen who finished fourth and Brandon Moser finished fifth.  “The competition in this division is the strongest it has ever been,” said Schilling.  “I’m just thankful to finally get back to victory lane.”  Sixth through tenth were Jason Smith, Rooster Peters, Kris Orwig Sr., Gary Mellott and Todd Geyer.  Heat races were won by Long and Moser.

The four cylinder feature was curfewed out after running two laps and will be completed on a later date.  Heat races were won by Jimmy Moyer, Maddox Smith, and John Bower

The Clinton County Speedway returns with racing next Friday, July 9th with a five division show.  The event is presented by Century 21 and real estate agent Bob Boob.  The evening will feature kid’s power wheel races plus the Limited Late Models, Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints, 600 Micro Sprints and double 4 Cylinder features.  Gates will open at 5PM, hot-laps begin at 7PM and racing is at 7:30.  For more speedway information visit the website, www.clintoncountyspeedway.com or visit the speedway’s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
